Songs for a Midwinter’s Eve

Celebrate the Holidays with Cece!

Songs for a Midwinter’s Eve is Cecelia Otto’s first foray into holiday music, and like her American Songline programs, it mixes familiar songs with long-buried treasures to shine a unique light on a familiar subject. Cece covers hundreds of years in the span of just five songs, going as far back as “The Old Year Now Away Is Fled,” a holiday-themed rewrite of “Greensleeves” dating back to the 17th century, and ending with “White Christmas,” written by Irving Berlin and recorded by hundreds of artists since Bing Crosby originated it in 1942. “The Star of the East,” “Toyland” and “In the Bleak Midwinter,” all late 19th- and early 20th-century favorites, are still performed today and still endure as timeless classics of the holiday season.

  1. In the Bleak Midwinter
  2. Toyland
  3. Star of the East
  4. The Old Year Now Away Is Fled
  5. White Christmas
